THIS & THAT #22

WHOM DO YOU TRUST?

Hillary and Elizabeth are not on my “Yes I Really Trust” list; in fact there are only two women I do completely trust.

One is my wife and the other is my daughter. There are only two men on that list including the man who should have been president — Bernie — and our local supervisor, John Leopold.

A FREUD IN NEED
I have been told unconditionally to never contact one of my former far-right friends of some sixty-seven years, who believes that the current President is the greatest thing that happened to American Jews since Kraft began making low-fat Kosher Crème Cheese.

Our country is divided into many areas including by race, wealth, politics, religion, country-of-origin, sexual orientation, and sex. It is in the latter category that today I have been pestered by letters and news coverage from and about female want-to-be leaders, (or wanted-to-be leaders), who are neither my wife nor my daughter.

In today’s news, Hillary is placing most of the blame for her loss on either Putin’s people or on Comey’s belated pre-election pronouncements. There’s little reference to the inept DNC, Debby’s improper and biased actions, and Clinton’s advisors convoluted and misguided pre-election campaign activities.

ALPHABET SOUP
Yesterday’s mail brought in a financial request allegedly from the DSCC, but only after carefully examining the four-page pitch, was I able to discover that those initials represented the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee. The letter described the group as a “grassroots network of fired-up progressives just like you,” which is an interesting assumption and presumption, since I never signed an oath to be one of them.

THE LIZ BIZ
In reality, the DSCC seems to be an organization primarily for and about Elizabeth. The addressee on the envelope is Elizabeth, ELIZABETH WARREN, DSCC. The letterhead reads “FROM THE DESK OF ELIZABETH WARREN,” and it is signed by Elizabeth, above the words “Senator Elizabeth Warren.” The enclosed pledge card has a photograph of a smiling Liz, with her arm raised in an acceptable winner’s pose, in front of a banner with a field of stars.

Come on Liz, you are campaigning for President, so why not be honest and say so?

TWO OUT OF THREE
Full Disclosure: I have overtly supported three candidates whom I once believed in: Eugene McCarthy in 1968, Bernie Sanders in 2016, and was totally misguided in 2008   when I sent moneys to support a dishonest John Edwards.

It is from what I learned in that latter experience, Liz, that you are not going to entrap me into supporting you or your DSCC, so please remove my name from your mailing list.

You have inspired me to send a check to John Leopold, and to finally sit in the sun and begin reading Bernie’s book, Our Revolution.

A SCARY DUO: SPRINGER AND SPICER
Where we are at today is personified by what is on television at this very moment. On one channel is the Jerry Springer Show, featuring three women who were convinced to see what they could do together in a bubble bath. The parallel is on another channel where Sean Spicer is bending the truth about three other entities; Donald, Chuck and the Democrats, and Mitch and the GOP. Perhaps those three would be able to make America Great Again, while sitting together in an oversized bathtub. They had better do so sooner than later, before Liz demands to be squeezed in.

THIS & THAT #8

What Is Democracy In America?

Both the Republican National Committee and its counterpart, the Democratic National Committee, appear to be acting against the precepts of a democracy.

According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, “democracy” is defined as “a form of government in which people choose leaders by voting.”

The RNC Does Not Believe
Apparently the RNC’s leader Reince Priebus and his committee as well as the DNC’s leader Debbie Wasserman Schultz and her committee, are unaware of the latter part of that definition — “in which people choose leaders by voting.”

The RNC is furiously trying to come up with a campaign to deny Donald Trump the chance of being their nominee for President of the United States. This is despite the fact that he has the most delegates to date based on people’s votes, and they will try to deny him, even if he has the 1,237 delegates needed for the nomination.

Neither Does the DNC
The Democrats seem to be even more adamant in trying to eliminate any pretense that their race for the nomination is anything more than a giant sham, with the odds stacked against anyone not named Clinton.

The Democrat nominee has to garner 2,383 delegate votes, and as of today, Hillary has 1,243 pledged delegates, and Bernie Sanders has 980. But the Democratic Party also has made sure that Clinton has 469 “superdelegates,” while Sanders has only 31.

This gives Clinton a total of 1,712 delegates, while Sanders has 1,011. Even with the conniving DNC working overtime to make her the nominee, there are still  2.042 delegates available.

Why “conniving,” you may ask. The DNC knew that both Billary and Hillary had worked the Black scene during the years, so they were quite pleased that many early primaries took place in Southern states, or states with heavily Black populations.  Hillary took an early lead when she won more delegates in South Carolina, Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia.

It is estimated that the 712 “superdelegates” represent 15 percent of the total. They include President Obama, Joe Biden, 239 Democratic members of the House and Senate, 21 sitting governors,  437 DNC members, and a questionable category known as “distinguished party leaders.”

The voters in primaries or caucuses do not choose these delegates, but “superdelegates” have an opportunity to elect the party’s nominee only because they are members of the elite upper echelon of Democrats.

The RNC and DNC Together
Finally, with all of the acrimony shown now and will be shown during the general election campaign, there is a movement that both parties are working on in obtuse harmony. Sadly, that is to obliterate Webster’s definition of “democracy.”

The Voices of the People
One woman said that although she doesn’t like Trump’s attitude towards women and minorities, she will vote for him because he was a good businessman.

Another voter told a television reporter that she’s voting for Hillary because Bill called her, not understanding that it was a Robocall. Another woman echoed her choice of Hillary, because she remembers what good Bill did while in office.

A Site To Make Eyes Sore
Picture President Hillary sleeping with Bill as he whispers policy in her ears, but only on nights when he isn’t sleeping with a female or male intern.

THIS & THAT #4

HAVE WE EVER HAD
A BLACK PRESIDENT?

When I was growing up, I had a golden-skinned friend who was a “mulatto.” According to the definition in the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, a “mulatto is the first generation offspring of a black person and a white person.” Dictionary.com has a similar definition, “the offspring of one white parent and one black parent.”

Shirley Ann Durham was born in Wichita, Kansas and was of predominantly English ancestry, with some German, Swiss, Scottish, and Welsh ancestry. She was Barak Obama’s mother and was definitely white.

Barack Obama, Sr., the President’s father, was a Kenyan and his family members are of the Luo ethnic group. Barack, Sr. is definitely Black.

If so, then perhaps our Obama is not the first Black President of the United States, but is instead, the first mulatto President.

Ben Carson could be the first Black President, but I wouldn’t vote for him. I was born in Detroit and went to Central High School, and was wary of people who went to other Detroit Public Schools like Southwestern High School, as Carson did.

Jalen Rose, a former National Basketball Association (NBA) player and current television analyst, also went to Southwestern. I am disappointed that through the years he allegedly never spoke in person with his biological father Jimmy Walker, who was the number one pick in the 1967 NBA Draft. The Detroit Pistons selected Walker, and I found him to be easy to talk with when we played tennis together at the Palmer Park courts. However, he was not easy to score against.

I always liked Southwestern High graduate Barney McCosky, who played for the Detroit Tigers in the 1930s and 1940s, but in keeping with my bias against persons from other Detroit Public Schools, I wouldn’t have voted for Barney for President, if he had decided to run.

I might have voted for Michigan’s Senator Carl Levin, if he would have run, but only because he went to Central High a few years before I did. Imagine that, a Jew seriously running for President. Well Yosel did in 2004, and Bernie’s doing it now, so maybe it isn’t such a far-fetched idea. Will they have to take a litmus test to prove that they really are Jewish? This would be before the “birthers” spread innuendos about each candidate, and demand to see an official birth certificate, written and signed in Hebrew (or Yiddish), by a certified Orthodox Rabbi.

Oy Vey!
